This guitar features the same pickups as the Comanche VI, but with more standard (and more manageable) controls. The guitar reportedly has noticeably better tone than the VI as well since the circuit is much simpler and hence the signal is better "preserved". The Z-coil pickups that appear in both Comanches were revived by BBE in 1997 and now appear in the Comanche Reissue (a guitar with the same control setup as the Comanche V), and the ASAT Z-3. Many folks describe these pickups as being rather "sterile" or "neutral"-sounding - a very good basis for further tone shaping via amp settings and effects devices.
