Ah yes, and so we come to the mighty G-200, one of my favorite models. This model features a solid mahogany body that (in my opinion) is an extremely attractive and tasteful "hint" at a Les Paul shape. It also features a Les Paul-like short scale length and control layout (volume and tone controls for each pickup, and the pickup selector mounted in the upper horn). The pickups are the same items that are found in the F-100, but oddly enough they sound quite different (and far better!!) in the G-200 - they're capable of easily overdriving an amp in a totally musical way.

Leo Fender disliked the model, perhaps because he didn't approve of some of its Gibsonesque features. In any event, only 209 guitars made it out of the factory before production was ceased. Most of those 209 guitars feature front-loaded controls nested in a rather functional-looking "cloud control plate". However, the last approximately 12 to 20 G-200s that left the factory featured rear-loaded controls.
