A Comanche with serial # clf24709 is for sale on the Portland, Oregon Craigslist. The guitar is registered here. Is there some way I can contact the register to ensure that the guitar hasn't been stolen or sold?

Also, if I buy this guitar and want to register it here, what happens if it already exists in the registry? None of my 5 other G&Ls were registered already. (Or I wasn't notified that my registry was a duplicate.)

If you update the registry entry to show new ownership, a message is sent to the person who it is currently listed as the owner. That gives him/her a chance to follow up if anything's amiss.
