So I saw this stunner on G&L's Facebook page:
But sadly, they are stating this color isn't available nor will it most likely ever be offered in the future. I don't know, I think this color is EXACTLY the addition they need to their lineup. I know that if I could get a guitar in this color, I would buy one in a heartbeat. And it's not just because it's a new color. I prefer beachy-style colors and this one would be perfect. Although I would ditch the tortoise pickguard & rosewood board and replace them with a white pearloid & vintage tint maple neck.
What do you think?

I've always figured that if/when I buy a new G&L it would be Bel Air Green. If this Coral was an option, I would go for it in a heartbeat. It could even be the final straw that makes me pull the trigger on a new G&L.

Here's another one which was posted in 2012 in the Prototype Guitars available for Sale link on the main G&L website:
ASAT Z-3
CLF062396
Serial Number: CLF062396
Date Completed: July 29, 2011
Description: Sunset Coral finish over Alder body, Hard Rock Maple neck with Rosewood fingerboard and matching Sunset Coral headstock. Three MFD Z-Coil pickups.
Special Features: One of our paint suppliers does much of their business in the automotive field, supplying accident repair and custom car shops throughout the US. They have an incredible array of color charts from just about every car company (US and foreign) and the formulas to match the colors. We are always looking for interesting solid colors and this one is called Sunset Coral, a Ford color offered between 1956 and 1958. We still haven’t decided it this is something that will be offered, but for now here’s one unique ASAT Z-3.
Available at: Pavlov Music Center in Cambridge, OH.

The G&L factory has mulled over this color for several years, but it still has not "made the grade".

Thanks for the additional info Craig, but I'm still confused. They obviously have some of the paint to make this color available to them in some capacity. So why wouldn't they do a limited run of guitars with this color until the paint is gone? Furthermore, how did was the music shop who ordered this able to order it?
I'm about ready to pull the trigger on my custom G&L after contemplating colors and options for months. But if I was able to get a guitar built in this color...no question this would be my #1 choice by a longshot. Any chance that I would be able to get this color on my build?
Thanks again Craig!

Besides the test finish, there is something else unusual about this Bluesboy:
Here's a very special ASAT Classic Bluesboy Semi-Hollow in Sunset Coral over swamp ash, f-hole deleted, Alnico bridge pickup, tortoise guard,
number 1c profile neck with rosewood board, vintage frets and Clear Satin finish. CLF072272 is headed to new G&L dealer Tone Shop Guitars in Dallas, Texas.
All
Alnico pickups....I wonder how it sounds?

Reading Dave's facebook posts regarding this finish, it's very clear they will not be offering it. "Not gonna happen anytime soon, if ever".

Hi folks, I feel right at home here in this Topic:
I own a G&L ASAT Classic Bluesboy, Semi-Hollow (no F-hole) in the stunning
Sunset Coral finish. Bought the beauty a month ago from Dave's Guitars. Of course I've searched for "Sunset Coral" and I'm still not sure if mine is a one-of-a-kind, but it doesn't matter to me anyway, because I love this guitar, both due to its stellar appearance and outstanding tone.
Even my super critical wife commented on the great tone and how this guitar seems to have improved my playing skills. Honestly, I do very little whereas this Bluesboy just soars and takes me for a ride. Stunning looks, great tone, and superior craftsmanship from the folks in Fullerton!
Hats off to Leo and his G&L disciples: You have made a believer out of me, Halleluja!

Welcome Roger! Man that's an amazing looking Bluesboy you got there! I'm so jealous!
I REALLY hope they decide to move forward with adding this color into their selection. I just ordered my ASAT Alnico, but I'm always looking ahead to my next G&L to add to the collection. And if they do decide to add this color full time, it'll be an instant order of another ASAT for me. The only question would be, which model?

Roger,
Your Missus has the most impeccable taste in guitars.
And the Bluesboy itself is strikingly pretty too.
Bluesboys sound fantastic and yours looks very special.

Wow, looks like a color that will get even better with age.

I really like that color combo tortoise/coral/natural headstock. For some reason it appeals to me more than the white PG and matching headstock. Shouldn't even be a discussion, just add it to the color chart G&L.
Nice score on the BB Roger!

I couldn't agree more. But I believe they would need proof there is enough demand for it to justify the cost of adding it to their selection full-time. Perhaps if there was some sort of petition proving to them the G&L community wants this color, they might change their minds.

best color out there in a long time, it would be my next pick for sure

I really do think that G&L are misunderstanding something when they say they don't see the point of using this colour.
It's extraordinarily cool-looking. Just add it to the chart, no doubt about it!

The Sunset Coral ASAT Z3 pictured on this discussion is my guitar. Made in July of 2011. It's the only one painted that color. I checked with G&L.

Congrats on getting this fine prototype. Please post a current photo and tell us how you like it.
Also, update the registry entry in our
G&L Registry and add yourself as the current owner.
Looking forward to seeing a current photo of this guitar.
