Thanks to Jim DePitts for sending in this pic of a matching pair of
yellow Invaders. Jim's is pictured on the right, and Carl Van Myers'
is shown on the left. Note that both of these guitars feature the Leo
Fender Fine Tuner vibrato rather than the more standard (and less
desirable) Kahler tremelo that more-commonly appeared on Invaders.
Jim says, "[Former Vintage Guitar columinst] Paul Bechtoldt, in
his book Leo's Legacy refers to this guitar's ability to 'light
up the night sky'. Both of these guitars were found in the same shop
in San Diego and had been purchased in the G&L 'garage sale' held
before BBE took over. Betcha they were made in the same run."
(Refer to Links section on this page for more information about Bechtoldt's book. Also, it's interesting to note that in 1999 a third Invader identical to this pair - yellow finish, Leo Fender Fine Tuner vibrato and all - surfaced briefly on eBay. If the individual who won that auction would like to send in a pic I'd be happy to add it here!) |
