On the second prototype (pictured here), we tried going with a gun-oiled neck, with an experimental stain applied to the body in order to try and get the body and the neck to match. Jake Kurdsjuk had been a tremendous help in organizing the discussions and voting on this instrument, and as a result he was offered a chance at one of the prototypes. Jake says, "I was allowed the privilege of not only buying one of the prototypes but choosing which one I wanted. I felt this one better matched our original specs so I chose it. After seeing both it was obvious that the natural was the better selection - though this one can be quite striking in certain lights (and quite homely in others). The photo shows it in a very good light."
