I beleive it's a clear orange finish - beautiful grain. I love the feel and quality of this guitar. Selling it is something I know I'll regret. I just figure I'll end up with another USA G&L one of these days. However, I'm trying to beef up some of my other gear (along with my inept playing ability :))...I purchased this S-500 years ago from a fellow GLDP'er. I'd love to keep it "in the family" but if she doens't sell I will probably try ebay.
Some additional notes...
I wouldn't classify it as heavy. Also, I tried to evaluate the neck thickness and to me I'd have a hard time labelling it as thick. These things are so subjective but I've always loved the feel of the neck.
When I received it, I noticed the bridge didn't "float". The seller told me he set it up that way to accomodate his fingerstyle playing. The guitar felt so great I never bothered to mess with it. I never so much as investigated to find out how it was locked down...until now. It appears that it isn't really locked down but it only has 2 of the springs connected.
I did a good scan of the guitar today and although it has a few dings here and there nothing is too bad and none of it breaks the topcoat. Closely inspected the frets and they look good to my untrained eye. I did notice fret wear on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd frets, B-string and
a little on the E-string.
