Seven Years Later: My ASAT Special is still my #1!
I've been working on a new musical project with some new friends. We're still looking for a singer, but in the meantime we get together every Sunday for a few hours and write and arrange instrumental bits that can be finished up into proper songs. And there is a good amount of free-form jamming, as well.Lately I have been bringing my ASAT Special (acquired new in 2003). The other guitarist is playing an Ibanez with active pickups, and gets his sound from a multi-effects unit into a solid state amp. I have been running the ASAT Special into a Planet Waves tuner, then a Boss Blues Driver (sometimes a Fulltone OCD)and then into a Vox AC4TV combo (we practice at modrate volumes, so I leave the Dr. Z at home for now). Not only does my cleaner, more "classic rock" tone layer very nicely with the other guy's sound, but it has become clear to me that the ASAT Special (and variants, like the SC-2) may just be "my" guitar. When I stomp on the Bluesdriver for a lead with the neck pickup...WOW!
I have had a lot of gear come in and out of my house since 2003, but the ASAT Special isn't going anywhere!
