Anyone ever built a tube amp?
Fitz78 on February 08, 2010 at 15:03:53:

I'm considering a future project of building my own tube amp...any suggestions on where to start? For example, any companies you guys recommend for kits or should I just restore an old amp? And is there an old amp that's easy to start with mechanically?

I like blues/funk/rock music, so I like Peavy classic 30, Peavy classic 50....and all Fender tube amps....

I have an uncle who's a great carpenter and could make me a nice combo cab unit if I give him specs on it....so I'm trying to figure out if I should get a kit and build or try to restore the electronics of an old amp I can get off ebay or local swap meet. Then once I have the guts ready, my uncle can make me a nice combo cab and combine the two! At least that's the plan!

I figure I'll learn a lot regarding guitar tone through this adventure! And use a lot of profanity as well! HAha.

Thanks guys for any advice in advance!
Fitz
