Re: Lunch Report for Monday, February 8, 2010
Great report, Bill (as usual). I don't have much to add because I don't play out and I've been digging our from 30 inches of snow for 3 days now and we're expecting more, so...I do have a pointy guitar in my past, though, a Japanese Charvel with a Jackson Humbucker in the bridge and a single coil in the neck position. Floyd licensed bridge. Nice slim fast neck. I gave it to my cousin's kid, who is an up and coming talent. I actually liked this guitar a lot and thought the pickups were a nice match for the instrument.
I would like some advice from you, though - assuming you don't mind. I'm considering doing a coffee house kind of open mike thing in the not-too-distant future. You speak of making an emotional connection (critical!) and of confidence in your abilities. What if you can't play well, don't sing too well, but have some really nice songs you've written? What sort of strategy might one try under such circumstances, or should I just stay home and wank alone in my basement? - Ed
