Bone nut installation on a Legacy? posted by offplanetfilms on February 08, 2010 at 20:35:31:

A couple of mine have had bone nuts put in, and they work great. I also have G&Ls with DF Vibratos with graphite nuts too. I don't hear much of a difference, if any. The theory goes that if the nut slot is cut properly, you don't need to use the Nut Sauce, but I tend to use it on all my guitars--even the ones with graphite nuts.

My luthier also talks about a material called Slip Stone. I think it is a Delrin nut, and you can get it from Stew-Mac.

I don't have enough skill to do this work on my guitars (without paying someone more money to undo what I've messed up!)
