| What to twang with posted by Tundra on May 09, 2008 at 18:25:07: |
I am a twang fan and have currently ASAT (RW neck), ASAT Classic (maple neck) that are very twangable. Have owned 78, 79 and 62 RI Tele all owning twang qualities but generic to me. From my experience, the ASAT and ASAT Classic are a bit bolder in the twang range. I lean to the 87 ASAT more to twang. Classic, alder body/maple neck, can be brighter, but is that twang to you?
I lived in Memphis during original St Blues stuff at Strings and Things not todays Korean options. Might as well get a MIM or even better G&L tribute for the sound you are looking for if funds can't reach USA G&L.
You will find many debates on Maple vs RW, and SH vs Solidbody this becomes a matter of taste. I also have a ASAT Z3 SH, that with tone rolled up, twang is very possible. IMHO the twang will come in an ASAT variety. I have not played an ASAT Custom, but the reviews have all been exceptional. Again, go play as many as possible nad find your tone!
Cya,
Sam
