| Multi-FX Units, any love in the GLDP? posted by pADavis on May 10, 2008 at 18:08:24: |
Zoom G2 or G2u.1 is a lot of bang for buck. It does the direct model thing too (Fender Clean ain't bad) but as a pedalboard solution feeding a tube amp it rocks my world. Wah ain't bad, compressor is pretty decent, OD boxes are very useful - I like the boost located in one of the early chains of efx. Several different ways to delay - can stick delay on top of delay if desired. I also like being able to Tremolo and chorus/vibrato at the same time.
Tricky interface to wrap your head around but once you understand how to configure it for what you want to do (amp or direct) it does a very good job with only minor sucking of guitar tone. Much better in that regard than POD XT's, GNX, GT8 - I've used them all too and the Zoom G2 family is my favorite.
G2 is actually a bargain under $100 and can use an external volume pedal for controlling things like volume or wah. The G2u.1 is about $180 but comes with a built in pedal and USB support for sound card. The pedal is good (kinda small but sturdy feeling) and the USB is okay.
Either box runs on AA's and will fit inside the front pocket of my gig bag. I rarely pull the old pedalboard out anymore since I found the Zoom G2. Now I own 3 of 'em because I like 'em so much.
