| Multi-FX Units, any love in the GLDP? posted by pADavis on May 10, 2008 at 18:08:24: |
I also got a Korg G3 that someone was selling cheaply. That's a great one to throw into the pocket of the gig bag for jams and rehearsals in places with lots of stairs.
Then just the other week a local guy who grey imports gear was selling off some Boss ME-50's at about the price the rest of the stores want for an ME-20. That was too good a deal to pass up on as I'd not got a birthday present this year yet.
My only complaint about the ME-50 is the tie it takes to switch patches. If you're changing sounds mid song you have to time it really well with a natural gap in the guitar part or you have this yawning 1/10th of a second of silence. This doesn't happen in manual mode when you kick in one of the effects though.
The interface on the ME-50 is so intuitive that it's be no problme to line up sounds in manual mode on a gig anyhow.
A comment on the sounds. The Overdrive & Distortion pedal sims are pretty good, althoughtheir idea of what a RAT soudsn like isn't much like the example that's sitting on one of my pedal boards. The more "processed" distortion sounds, like their "Solo", "Stack", etc on the variation bank of the distortions section are a bit not to my taste, and the reverb's far too sudden. In "Spring" mode it goes from nothing to soudning like a Fender amp'sd reverb on about 5 within a hair's bredth or adjustment.
That said, I could easily cover a gig with it, and when I play a festival next month I may very well do so, especially as I can secure it to the stage with my laptop style Kensington lock.
