I have been playing guitar since 1967! I've played Rock, Country, Spanish, Jazz, Road Bands, Show bands, Garage bands - a wide variety of music in electric bands over the years.

I originally bought the Broadcaster after I wore out my old 1969 SG Special. In 1985 My wife told me I deserved to have any axe I wanted, but I didn't want to buy something so expensive that I would feel guilty after I got the first scratch... I needed a professional quality axe that I could go gig with. I found the Broadcaster at a music store here in New Mexico - and it was in tune. Hmmm, nice, played good, sounded bright, had a lot of spank. Went around to some other places and tried out a bunch of guitars that day (10/26/85) but kept comparing them back to that black beauty, so I returned to King's Music and got it. (When your wife says you can have it, go and get it before she changes her mind!) Now, who'd a thunk it would become a big 'ol 'vintage' collector's item? I opened the case today (3/7/09)to look at the paperwork for this here G&L registry, and it's still in tune. Wow!

To replace the Broadcaster I got a new Natural Ash ASAT (10/15/94) just after Leo died. I retired my 'Blackie' cause I knew I didn't want any more wear on it. It's still beautiful, polished, and in excellent shape. It has couple of tiny dings, but, hey! I played it and made a more than few bucks with it, and that's what I got it for.I'm gonna leave it to one of my sons when I pass on - they know all about this Broadcaster guitar and the G&L story behind it!
