I've been playing bass since 1966. Started with a Layfayette single pick up.... Moved to a Kappa continental then to a Guild Starfire I. Started my Leo addiction in 1970 with a fretless precision. After that in the 70's I bought a MM Stingray (the first one that my local shop ever got) Plastic knobs and all . After that a MM fretless. Then after a studio burned up the electrics on my first MM I needed a fretted bass fast so I bought the first GL L-1000 that my local store ever got in. It was love at first play. For the four night a week gig routine we were playing the L-1000 seemed superior to the MM. so I sold both for what I had Payed $465 each. Now some years later MM is well known ( I had to explain the lineage of MM to prospective buyers!!) I'm sick I didn't just keep the MM's and sell them in todays market. My origenal MM was repaired under warrenty by the way... came back with chrome knobs and never sounded the same... So there could be something to the first Stingrays having a different sound. In any event my L-1000's never need batteries and to my ear sound better for it.
