I grew up in the 1950s in So. Calif. on Merle Travis, Joe Maphis, Joaquin Murphey, Bob Wills and Rose Maddox. In the 1960s I moved to the east coast and discovered Howling Wolf, Jimmy Reed, Blind Blake, T Bone Walker and Booker T and the MGs. As a result my guitar playing could be described as Eldon Shamblin meets Lonnie Johnson. My bass playing is a little more consistent: Jamerson meets Dunn and Collins. As the band leader behind the chicken wire said to Jake and Elwood Blues, "We play both types of music... country AND western." I also toss in a good bit of r&b, blues tinged rock, rockabilly and jazz.
For years I have wanted a G&L but the money and right instrument never seemed to meet. Today I traded a Strat for an S-500 and am as happy as the meadow lark outside on the fence post.
