Question for G&L experts:

Post by mondostrat »

On the Tribute series (specifically the Blueburst finish), the specs list “Swamp Ash top on Poplar”. My question is:

👉 Has this construction (poplar body with an ash veneer/top for the burst/translucent finishes) always been the case on Tribute models, or did G&L only adopt this method after production moved to Indonesia?

I’d like to know whether earlier Tribute models (Korean-made, for example) were full swamp ash bodies, or if the ash-on-poplar construction has been standard since the very beginning of the Tribute line.

Thanks in advance for your insights!

No, Swamp Ash veneer top on Poplar bodies came out in 2024. From 2003-2020 Swamp Ash bodies were used for some models.
In 2021 Sassafras replaced Swamp Ash bodies except for the JB and JB2 basses which had Ash veneer top on Poplar body. Also, Nato was
used on the S-500 (with Irish Ale over Nato body).

Hope this helps.

Hi Craig,
Thanks for the clarification. I checked the G&L Specifications and Options and it matches my 2015 Legacy Blueburst. Good to know!

Cheers,
