In 1996-97 G&L offered the ASAT Classic Custom, L-1500 Custom, L-2000 Custom, L-2500 Custom and L-5500 Custom.
They all came with an Alder body with a bookmatched Ash top. Here' are a couple of them from the 1996-97 G&L Catalog:
I still yet have to see a G&L bass that I don't like. They all look awesome and the burst has a great vibe. Might have to check the used market for one of these...
