Open Jack Installation in an ASAT Classic

Post by Paul Siewert »

Hi

I am looking at changing the current output jack ( deep socket) on my ASAT classic with an open jack and a football type plate.

The body will need to be opened up to a 20mm hole to accept the open jack.

I was thinking of using a step drill...has anyone had any experience in opening up the body, or any other ideas as to the cleanest way this can be done ?

Paul, a step drill may work fine. The key is to not chip the paint on the body. Once your into the wood it should be easy. I use grinder or rasp bits in a drill to do this. Just take your time. It is a good idea as the football jacks do not give you problems. G&L announced they were converting to this some time back but I am not sure is has happened although my 2014 American Fallout has one. The barrel jacks are problematic, especially with the metric ends on some of the guitar cords. The football jacks are easy to adjust. Let us know how you did it when you are done. -- Darwin
