L-5000 bass: production numbers

Post by Green Thing »

I have an L-5000 en route and was curious about production numbers wrt certain features.

These are a "rare bird" in that the entire range was in the order of 400.

In the past I have seen figures regarding production numbers which I can no longer find.

Does anyone have an input on the following:

1. Total numbers actually produced? The registry currently has 110 listed of the 400-ish required for "rare bird" status.

2. Numbers produced with sickle head-stock -- also, when did these stop? 1991?

and

3. Numbers produced by fretboard -- rosemary vs maple vs ebony?

At the risk of being too general, any links or info on the L-5000 would also be appreciated. I have done what I think is a decent search of the WWW and it seems to me that I used to be able to find more info on them than I can now that I have one heading to me.

Cheers.

Hey, Tony congrats on you scoring a G&L Rarebird bass!

I just fixed the L-5000 Rarebird page which had not been updated since we had to "upgrade" to a new version of the Gallery.
The links are now working, so check it out: https://www.guitarsbyleo.com/AUTOREG/RA ... /L5000.php.

The L-5000 Bass was in production from 1988 thru 1992 Approx. 400 built, which is listed on these posts in our G&L Knowledgebase Forum:
G&L Registry RAREBIRDS
List of G&L Rarebird Instruments (USA)
Production List of G&L Instruments (USA)

Hope this helps.

Looking forward to seeing your L-5000 and make sure to add it to the G&L Registry, too.
