Of the 20 solidbodies, five had maple fretboards, 14 had rosewood, and one had ebony. One of the rosewood-fretboard solidbodies had a back contour. The ebony fingerboard model is a triple-bound "one-off" with a quilted maple top, large frets, and a birdseye neck. Of the 12 semihollow examples, six had maple fretboards and six had rosewood.

Tim runs through the specifications on the Blues Boy:
"The solidbody version has an alder body, top-bound in white. The semihollow version has an ash body, again top-bound in white. Both have sunburst finishes and a matching white pickguard. A Seymour Duncan Seth Lover 1955 Humbucker at the neck and a G&L MFD Classic pickup at the bridge wired to a 3-way switch. One volume and one tone knob. 7.5" radius neck, with vintage Dunlop 6230 frets. Maple neck with either a Rosewood or Maple fingerboard with a polished glossy lacquer over a hand rubbed gun oil tint. Custom ordered Tweed hardcase. Neck plate engraved 'Special G&L Edition.'

When I was first working on the design of the Bluesboy we were looking at using the '59 Humbucker that Seymour Duncan makes as I had had good results with it in other instruments. Seymour Duncan was the one who highly recommended for the "best result" to NOT put two high gain pickups in one guitar of this design. He was right ~ it made for a much smoother sound and it was a great recommendation (along with having the humbucker potted). Tony at G&L was the one who helped figure out the ground plane issue.

There was a real team effort of folks that helped me with the Bluesboy that started in Nov. of 1998 and finished in May of 1999. Those 6 months were really critical to the success of this instrument and from what I can tell, it's been well received by players around the world."
